Epidemiologic and Therapeutic Aspect of Urogenital Fistula Following Obstetric and Gynecologic Surgeries Repaired at the Nkwen Baptist Hospital

Introduction: Urogenital fistula is an abnormal communication between the urinary and genital systems. It may occur following vaginal deliveries or pelvic surgeries. Data concerning urogenital post-surgery limited we have noticed in recent years Sub-Saharan Africa, increase burden of iatrogenic fistula. Objective: The aim this study was to assess epidemiology, clinical profiles therapeutic aspects obstetric gynaecologic surgeries repaired at Nkwen Baptist Hospital Bamenda. Materials/Methods: This a longitudinal descriptive with retrospective prospective phase carried out for 5 months. However complete duration about 17 collected using pretested questionnaire containing socio-demographic information, features, methods used. We used statistical software SPSS (Social Package Statistical Sciences) V 26.0 data analysis. Results: number participants 40. mean age 43.5 (+/- 13.3) ranging from 16 - 74 years. prevalence post gynecologic hospital 64.6%. most common symptom urine leakage surgery that exposed patient total abdominal hysterectomy (60%) followed by caesarean section (35%). different indications these were mostly symptomatic leiomyoma (70.8 %) prolonged labor (64.2%) respectively. types encountered Vesicovaginal (55%), Ureterovaginal 40% Vesicoutetrine 5%. treatment modalities trans (77.5%) transvaginal repair (22.5%). overall success rate after one month 85%. Conclusion: There high our setting. Having more specialists trained procedures help prevention such event.
